Best of Savannah: Fun

From thousands of reader surveys comes our inimitable Best of Everything list. Categories run from appetizers to desserts, bike shops to barbershops. Here, the year’s best of fun, including date night, late night, girls night out and more.

Girls Night Out

Circa 1875

48 Whitaker St.
Sometimes all you need in life is your best girls, a basket of fries and a bottle or two of rosé. That’s likely one reason—or three—why Circa 1875 is a favorite GNO spot for locals and visiting bachelorette parties alike.

“Unpretentious French” is the restaurant’s tagline, and owners Donald Lubowicki and Jeffrey Downey take it seriously. The bistro menu’s uncomplicated classics (roast chicken, steak-frites, onion soup) please every palate, and also allow for a little adventure—frog legs, anyone?

The high-ceilinged dining room is street level, but the bar is more refined than rowdy, and groups can dine in the wine cellar downstairs. Lubowicki says Circa’s thoughtful touches and décor— vintage advertisements, antique lighting fixtures, cozy rugs, a rose on every table—create an elegant atmosphere. The impeccable service doesn’t hurt either.

The boutique wine list is another well-rounded and affordable draw. Add to that desserts like crème brulee and chocolate cake, and Circa might be the closet you’ll get to a Parisian affair—sans airfare.
