AS I TYPE,
thousands of homeless individuals are lining up in Forsyth Park to receive what may be their only Thanksgiving dinner. Hundreds of volunteers are serving the meat from 250 turkeys that were prepared under the leadership of restaurateur Wiley McCrary.

The 11th Annual Day of Great Thanksgiving was started by the Old Savannah City Mission, under the direction of the Rev. Jim Lewis.

Several of Savannah's finest restaurants have contributed side dishes to accompany the turkey. Teams of volunteers will deliver meals to seniors and others who cannot make it to the park today.

The event, which is open to the community, is an effort by Lewis to not only feed the hungry, but to also encourage people of all races, backgrounds, and life experiences to sit at the table together. Dinner will be served until 2 p.m. today.

The Old Savannah City Mission is experiencing a significant increase in people seeking food and shelter. To learn more about the mission, visit oscm.org/.

Yours,
Miss T. J.

Know of a great lunch spot I should check out? Are you having an interesting event in the near future? Let me know and I'll try to come and bring a camera! Miss T. J.
