A Taste of the Town

What kind of birthday cake goes with sushi?

Posted by Miss T. J. (11-19-2008)

IT'S MY BIRTHDAY and I'll blog if I want to!

Today I am sharing -- and celebrating --my birthday with one of my co-editors, Annabelle, here at the magazine. Our co-workers decorated the office in a sea of balloons and we both received tiaras to wear while we ate delicious cake for breakfast. The breakfast of champions!

Now that I’ve had my cake, I am pondering tonight's birthday meal. In the past, I've donned my best dress and headed off to some of the finer dining establishments on my special day. One of my favorite birthday memories is when Chris Nason, owner and chef of Sapphire Grill, created a beautiful birthday dessert plate that I shared with my husband. Chris has a knack for creating stunning plates.

Tonight, though, I want to keep it simple. I am craving Kazumi Yoshimotos's specialties at Sushi Zen on Waters Avenue. I think I'll start off with a steaming pot of green tea, some miso soup and then pick out some of my favorite rolls.

I know I'll be dining at Elizabeth on 37th for a holiday group dinner soon and and I plan to eat with a friend at Sapphire Grill in the near future. Eos and Kasey's Gourmet Grille will be after-holiday-shopping stops, too.

But, for tonight, I'm in a sushi state of mind!

Yours,
Miss T. J.
