Ten years. But who's counting?
JUNE 1, 2009, MARKED A MILESTONE OF SORTS, FOR ME. It was the 10th anniversary of the day I started my career with Morris Communications Corporation. I first worked in the Marketing Department of the Savannah Morning News. While there, I was an advertising writer and I wrote an average of 10 business profiles a week. These were tight stories about businesses in
Soon I was promoted to advertising publications coordinator and in that position I supervised the new "hired pen" and also wrote, edited and produced approximately 90 special sections a year, including the weekly Homes and Real Estate section.
My next stop was Savannah Magazine, where I joined the staff of "women only" as one of two on the editorial staff (we now have three). The year I came on board, there were 10 employees and six regular issues with a Homes bonus issue. With each passing year, the magazine continued to grow. At one point, we were so busy we expanded the staff and our office. In addition to Homes and the regular issues, we've added Savannah Weddings.
What the future holds for any one of us is ultimately out of our hands, and I know the experiences I have had over the last decade will serve me in the future. I've learned what to do and what not to do. I have honed my skills and learned new ones. I have stretched and been stretched.
Ten years ... and I'm counting.
