The AASU Masquers theatre troupe presents Bright Ideas by Eric Coble. Everyone wants to fast-track their baby Einstein to success, but one set of over-indulgent parents feverishly takes extreme-parenting beyond its outermost legal limits. Genevra and Joshua riotously launch felonious ideas into frenetic motion just to enroll their toddler into Bright Ideas Early Childhood Development Academy and ensure pre-K valedictorian status. Through October 26: “Constructs and Inventions: The Etchings of Erik Desmazieres.” A selection of the artist’s technically and conceptually sophisticated etchings.

Through August 31: “Persian Visions: Contemporary Photography from Iran.” The first survey of contemporary Iranian photography to tour the U.S., providing a rare and revealing view of Iranian life and experiences.

Through August 31: “Counter Photography: Japan’s Artists Today.” Works by 11 contemporary Japanese artists. The exhibition challenges many commonly-held beliefs about the nature of photography.

The Story of Silver in Savannah: Creating and Collecting since the 18th Century

Building on the Telfair Museum of Art’s Savannah-related silver holdings, this notable exhibition showcases pieces from numerous public and private collections featuring locally-made silver as well as wares manufactured in other American cities and in Europe. The Story of Silver in Savannah will feature more than 400 pieces of silver connected to the city, exploring the evolving relationship between this prized metal and the inhabitants of Savannah.

This Old House: Director’s Preservation Tour of the Davenport House

Learn about the preservation and care of the Isaiah Davenport House, recipient of the Preserve America Presidential Award. The museum’s director will lead a tour in and around the home discussing the recent restoration, maintenance issues and techniques for preserving the site for the long term. The tour is limited to twelve people and areas will be visited that are not regularly on tour. The experience will end in the garden with light refreshments.

Learn about tea traditions and experience an early 19th century tea in the historic atmosphere of the Isaiah Davenport House Museum. Patrons will be oriented to the history of tea and tea traditions relating to the early 19th century consumer. They will tour areas of the home where tea service took place and will participate in an afternoon tea given with costumed interpreters. 60 minutes.
Thursdays, some Fridays and one Wednesday in March 2010 (4, 5, 11, 12, 18, 19, 24 and 25)

Get wild with wildlife during this week-long celebration of the grand opening of the Savannah National Wildlife Refuge’s Visitor Center. Enjoy tours of rice plantation fields and the tidal wetlands of the Savannah River where you’ll find alligators, herons, waterfowl and other interesting creatures.
Regular admission is free. $30 adults/$10 children for guided tours. Tours are at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
